New year 2020

It might seem like it’s a little early to start thinking about next summer, but what’s wrong with a little vacation dreaming, right? Here are some tips for landing a week at that destination that you’ve been thinking about.

Mark your calendar – a year in advance. Many who return to the same vacation destination year after year will make reservations for the following year as soon as they return from their trip. If you make a habit of booking the week you want on that same week – a year in advance – you’ll have a much better chance of getting the vacation you want, when you want it.

Book accommodations first. Confirm your exchange before reserving your flights, booking rental cars or asking for time off from work. Once you and your family have a place to stay, the rest is easy when planned well in advance.

Look for local events. If you have both a destination and a date in mind, it’s a good idea to check out the area’s local calendar to see if there are any major events during the time you wish to visit. Depending on the event, it may prompt you to consider a different destination, or may urge you to book that destination early.

Keep an open mind. If you are set on a specific date, consider several different destinations based on the factors most important to you. You may find a new favorite vacation spot that you’ve never considered before.
