RTX Traveler Magazine Issue 16 | Gulf Shores and Orange Beach, Alabama

RTXTraveler_Issue16_GulfShores_coverRTX Traveler: #Winning

Spring was a bit reluctant to start at RTX’s headquarters in the mountains of Asheville, N.C., when it finally arrived we were delighted by Mother Nature and all her colorful newness. It was as if we’d finally reached the finish line of a long, cold, hilly winter race and were rewarded with warmth and sunshine; as if we were all winners. We hope that this 16th issue of RTX Traveler will project some of those spring-like characteristics as we showcase Alabama’s Gulf Coast.

But first, let’s talk about winning. While we love traveling more than most things, we also love celebrating wins: those of our members and our employees. We have much to celebrate in this issue. RTX Traveler Magazine landed the Best Print Media award at the 2017 GNEX Conference in San Diego in February. We stood up against admirable competitors and came out on top.

We also have announced the winners of our 1st quarter Time to Share contest. Check out page X for the winning photos. We’d like to thank all of our members who participated, and remind you that a new contest starts every quarter; so check us out on Facebook for submission information.

The magazine’s design has been evolving over the last several issues; in this one, you’ll notice a new cover design as well as some other new elements throughout the pages. The color and beauty of the Gulf Coast is showcased in our original photography and the descriptions in the articles. We’ll take you out on a boat for a fishing expedition, we’ll take you through the wetlands and wildlife refuges by foot or bike, and we’ll show you civil war history at a bay defense fort. Of course, we’ll take you to the white sand beaches and will show you where to eat the best seafood around.

If you like the vibe of the Gulf Shores, check out our Destination Exclusives articles for even more travel inspiration. Of course, as always we have our picks for Amazing Exchanges and Getaways destinations. Our resort spotlight takes us to the low country of South Carolina for a family-friendly favorite, and our Weekend Escape itinerary highlights our nation’s capital.

By the time you read this, summer will be near. So pull out your deck chair, rub in the sunscreen and let us take you on a vacation daydream. Of course, we’re here when you’re ready to make that dream a reality.

Compared to other coastal U.S. states, Alabama has a scant 53 miles of coastline, but on the Gulf Coast, it’s about quality, not quantity. Strikingly natural white sand beaches, world-class sport fishing and fresh caught Gulf seafood, and a general laid-back beach town atmosphere make the twin cities of Orange Beach and Gulf Shores an excellent family vacation destination.
