RTX Traveler Issue 22 | Myrtle Beach, South Carolina

RTXTraveler_MyrtleBeach_November2018-CoverOur writer and photographer, Pat Barcas, visited Myrtle Beach for this issue of RTX Traveler Magazine just a few months before Hurricane Florence had her sights set on the Carolina Coast, followed by Hurricane Michael. Throughout the unfolding of both storms, we stayed in close contact with our partner resorts in Myrtle Beach and other impacted areas along the coast. We were impressed by the professionalism of the resort teams, the preparation that went into securing the resorts and the way that the resort leaders put the safety of their guests and employees above all else. We were relieved to hear that the Myrtle Beach area and our partner resorts came through both storms with minimal damage. We also kept in close contact with partner resorts in the more heavily impacted areas. To all of our members who live or have loved ones in the areas that are still working through recovery as of this writing, you continue to be in our thoughts.

Pat returned to the Myrtle Beach area for vacation with his family after the storms, and reports that everything was in good shape and the Grand Strand is as ready for vacationers as ever. Myrtle Beach is often among the most popular vacation destinations in a number of categories – east coast beaches, family-friendly destinations, golf getaways, best timeshare vacations – the list goes on. It’s no different among RTX members, as it’s consistently been in our top five resort locations among members for several years. It’s easy to think of the obvious when someone mentions Myrtle Beach. The kitschy gift shops, Broadway at the Beach, over-the-top restaurants and golf courses around every corner. But did you know that the Grand Strand has two state parks on the beach, offering a more natural and laid-back experience than those along the strip? Have you been to Brookgreen Gardens, where you can spend an entire day viewing the sculptures, taking a boat tour and seeing the unique farm animals? Speaking of farm animals, have you visited the peacocks and mini potbelly pigs at A New Life Ranch? Whether you’ve never visited Myrtle Beach or you travel there year after year, there’s plenty to discover, and we’ve tried our best to scratch the surface in this issue. We even have some recommendations from a local who really knows her stuff (see page 29).

If you love theme parks, the nostalgia of a boardwalk town, hitting the greens or great vacation spots for families, you’ll want to check out the Exclusive Destination articles. We’re also thrilled to bring you an update from our affiliate, Festiva Sailing Vacations, as they recently launched four new boats that replaced those lost to Hurricane Irma over a year ago. Check out page 27. If the articles in this issue make you yearn for the sand between your toes, give RTX a call and start planning your next beach vacation, to Myrtle Beach or one of our other many fantastic destinations.
