RTX Voyages: What I Bought, and What I Got

For all of my business travel, I use the RTX Voyages site. Using it for car rental is fast, easy, and cheap. But what do I actually get for my money?

On a recent trip to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina from Asheville, North Carolina, I reserved the cheapest car I could find on the Voyages site. I’d be traveling alone, so that was all I needed. The economy car reservation promised a Ford Fiesta or similar car. Let’s find out what I actually got to drive on my 600 mile road trip.

What I bought:

I reserved my economy car for four days, picking up Friday morning and dropping off Monday night. The cost was $93.94, with about ten bucks in tax due at pickup. That works out to about $25 per day. Not bad!

I was swiftly emailed my reservation with confirmation number. Picking upĀ in Asheville was smooth and painless, and I was soon on my way.

What I got:

The car I received was a bright red 2016 Ford Focus SE with about 30,000 miles on the odometer. It had black leather seats, a sunroof, and Ford’s Sync-branded bluetooth audio connection. (Which worked seamlessly.)

The Focus proved very comfortable on long highway stretches.

For an economy car, it was anything but. The Focus was quiet and composed on the highway, with comfortable seats and a great stereo. The engine was a fuel sipper but still had plenty of passing power. There was more than enough room for four, with space for luggage in the hatchback. It was 80 degrees in early March when I pulled into Myrtle Beach, and the sunroof was a nice way to get some fresh air. This was a great vacation car for not only getting there, but zipping around the beach town’s main drag in comfort and style.

All in all, I was very pleased with my reservation through RTX Voyages, and it reminded me that RTX really is a one stop shop for travel. In addition to car rental, you can also book accommodations, cruises, air travel, and even entertainment. Give Voyages a try next time you need something extra on your trip!
