ZipLine Hilton Head

Zip line courses have become a new trend in many vacation destinations, and for good reason. For nature lovers, zip lining offers a completely new perspective, whether it’s experiencing the thrill of being among the highest tree canopies or getting a birds-eye view of a marsh.

Zip lining is something families can experience together, creating memories that will last forever. Those who love an adrenaline rush will have no problem clipping on the harness and zipping away, while those who may have a fear of heights are given a safe and welcoming environment to overcome and conquer that fear.

At ZipLine Hilton Head, the adventure begins at Ground School, where groups of two to eight people per tour are given a full safety overview and an idea of what to expect on their two-hour adventure. The course begins lower and slower over the first few lines, and progresses through eight lines, seven platforms, three towers and two swinging bridges.

Towers reaching up to 75 feet offer stunning views of Broad Creek, and at that height guests are nearly at eye level with birds like bald eagles and red-tailed hawks. The grand finale is a double cable line where two people race side by side over 900 feet to the finish line – that’s about three football fields!

Aerial Adventure Hilton Head

Along with zip lining, aerial adventure courses are growing in popularity as well. These elevated obstacle courses are often geared toward different age and experience levels, making it fun for young kids and challenging for even the most agile adults. Challenges like swinging rope bridges, climbing walls, hula hoop tunnels and more – all suspended in the air – give a whole new meaning to the word adventure.

ZipLine Hilton Head and Hilton Head Aerial AdventuresOne of the newest attractions on the island, Aerial Adventure Hilton Head, opened in March this year. The aerial adventure offers fun and challenges for anyone age five and older. With 50 different elements and three different levels covering six courses (two courses each of beginner, intermediate and advanced), this course is two hours of pure fun and adrenaline.

The staff worked closely with the course designers to create a safe and unique thrill that also is closely tied to the essence of Hilton Head. Challenge activities represent and celebrate sailing, fishing, knee boarding, kayaking and boating – yes, there is a kayak in the treetops! Some activities are aptly named after common sights in Hilton Head like Sea Shell Bridge, Osprey Nest, Gator Zip and more. Another theme within the course is a salute to the many military members and their families who live in the Hilton Head community, with demanding obstacles typically found on a military challenge course.

While there are guides on hand to supervise and assist, the aerial adventure is a self-guided tour. With a continuous connection between the guest’s harness and safety cable, there is no doubt that everyone can enjoy this attraction worry-free.

Dedicated Staff

While the activities are quite memorable on their own, the 50 staff and guides at ZipLine Hilton Head and Aerial Adventure Hilton Head go above and beyond to ensure everyone who visits their attractions makes a lasting memory. Whether it’s incorporating local stories, history or ecology into the tour or giving encouragement to those who need it, the staff and guides elevate the experience for all guests.

With two highly trained guides per zip line tour, safety and security is a priority. Each guide must complete a full month of training, including two weeks of technical training, a 20-page written test and a week of guide training including safety procedures as well as training on the island’s history and wildlife. Trainees must shadow experienced guides and be shadowed by experienced guides before they are fully certified to lead their own zip line tours. Once fully trained as a zip line guide, an additional four days of training is required to guide the aerial adventure course.

  • The ZipLine Hilton Head course took three and a half months to build and opened in April 2012. Many of the employees who helped build the course are still guides today.
  • To preserve the natural habitat of birds and other wildlife, one bird house was built for each tree that had to be removed to construct the course.
  • Guests must be at least 8 years old and at least 80 pounds to handle the zip line course. There is a maximum weight of 250 pounds.
