Top Beach Gear for Summer

It’s time to dig out those bathing suits and beach towels, and get ready for sun, sand and surf! Summer days on the shore can be some of the best memory making moments, and being prepared with the right gear for your family can help enhance the experience for everyone. Check out some of our favorite items to make your beach trip go without a hitch.

Music Player copyWaterproof music player: There are plenty of options available for waterproof tunes, from rugged portable radios to speaker cases that protect and project your phone or other media player. Look for something lightweight that doesn’t take up too much space.

E-book protector: If you don’t have to keep a constant eye on little ones, an e-reader can be a perfect seaside companion. Keep it safe from the sand and water with a protective cover. Look for a screen protector or sleeve that can be in use while shielding it from scratchy sand.

Underwater camera: We know film is passé, but a disposable underwater camera is an affordable and fun way to capture memories of your family splashing in the waves. Most photo centers will put digital copies of the photos on a disk for you.

UV monitor: It’s easy to let time slip away during the relaxed days of summer vacation; however, too much sun can always be dangerous, even when it’s overcast or cooler out. If you don’t want to buy a UV monitor, set an alarm on a stopwatch or cell phone to let you know when it’s time to head for cover.

Beach Umbrella copyShade & cover: Think wide-brimmed hats, sunglasses, sarongs, extra towels and beach umbrellas or a shade tent. This essential gear can keep you safe and comfortable while adding privacy and protection from the sun, wind and sand. And of course, always keep extra sunscreen on hand.

Waterproof bag or container: Keep your electronics, wallet and other valuables safe from water and sand with an air-tight bag or container. If you’re worried about security, check out those with combination locks that attach to a beach chair.

Beach wagon: If you have little ones, or just a lot of gear, a wagon can be a lifesaver for hauling towels, coolers, kids and toys between the car and the beach. Look for one that has all-terrain wheels made for the sand. It can be converted into a sand-free napping spot for toddlers and babies.

Bag copyMesh beach bag: When you visit the beach, there will be sand everywhere. You can keep the grainy bits to a minimum with a mesh bag so that most of the sand stays where it’s supposed to – on the beach. Collect any toys in a mesh bag and give them a dunk in the ocean just before leaving.

Outdoor blanket: Beach towels don’t always do the trick when it comes to keeping things sand-free. A large outdoor picnic or beach blanket with vinyl on one side will help you and the family keeps your space comfortable throughout the day.
