The Wind is Right | Festiva Sailing Vacations Returns to the Islands With All New Fleet

Hurricane Irma struck with intensity in September 2017, causing a total of nearly $65 billion in total damages and a severe blow to the Caribbean Leeward Islands, including Festiva Sailing Vacations’ fleet of five sailing yachts anchored at Hodges Creek Marina on the island of Tortola in the British Virgin Islands. The lost fleet has been replaced by four brand new Lagoon 450 sailing catamarans, with a fifth new vessel arriving in the first quarter of 2019.IMG_0396

Customers set sail on the new yachts on Oct. 27 of this year, marking a celebratory return to the island waters, which have seen a remarkable recovery since last year. “It was rewarding to go through this, as well as the ordeal the island endured, and set sail with the new, improved catamarans,” said Tammy Stone, director of guest experience at Festiva Sailing Vacations. Stone sailed with two colleagues on the inaugural voyage this year and said the beaches were clean, the water clear, the harbor repaired and improved, and the fleet of brand new yachts impeccable.

“This vacation is for someone looking for adventure, but we also offer luxury,” she said.

IMG_0394The crew will cater to your needs and offers a flexible itinerary: want to go snorkeling, take advantage of the included stand up paddleboards and sea kayaks, or spend time at the beach or shopping? It’s up to you. At the end of the day, relax with the included air conditioned cabins and standalone shower unit, a perk of the Lagoon 450 yacht. On deck, enjoy 360-degree views and a unique and refreshing perch on the nets above the water on the front of the yacht.

“To see our guests load their luggage onto this new fleet, it was just a triumph,” said Stone. “We’re back and excited to be back.”

Festiva Sailing Vacations also offers yacht charters in St. Maarten and the Greek isles. RTX members have several ways to book: exchange your week plus a provisioning fee, or save your week and take advantage of the RTX exclusive rate of $2,950 to book a two-person cabin (up to 32 percent off the standard retail rate.)
