The Grenadines | Festiva Sailing Vacations | RTX Traveler Issue 14

May the trade winds push your catamaran gently along and the sun warm your skin into a golden hue as you embark on a fantastic Caribbean voyage with Festiva Sailing Vacations. We’re inviting you to sail along with us to our newest destination, The Grenadines, a lightly-populated 32-island chain located in the south Caribbean, west of Barbados and north of Grenada. You’ll experience world-class snorkeling and scuba diving, white sand beaches, and beautiful tropical weather all year round from the deck of a 44-foot Lagoon catamaran.

Beautiful turquoise waters of the Caribbean viewed from atop Tobago Cays.

Sailing day one:

Arrive on the island of Grenada, your home port for the journey. You’ll be headed north to explore several smaller islands this week. First, orient yourself, meet the captain and crew, and have dinner aboard the boat that night. Settle in and get some sleep and prepare for a week of adventure!

Sailing day two:

Your destination today is Carricacou, the largest island in The Grenadines. The island is known as the “Isle of Reefs” for its impressive unspoiled coral reefs in the area, full of corals and schooling fish. There are also two wreck dives, the Westsider and Boris tug boats. Those still getting their sea legs can enjoy two great beaches: Anse La Roche and Paradise Beach.

Sailing day three:

Keep heading north to Canouan, then after lunch stop at Union Island to visit the village of Toronto for more unforgettable snorkeling. Grab a bottle of wine and settle into the beach surrounded by towering cliffs. The next stop is Bequia, an island of beaches, boutiques, and friendly smiles. It’s dinner ashore tonight where you can dance the night away to Caribbean steel drums and calypso music.

Sailing day four:

Wake up with a refreshing dip off the boat and get ready for day four of relaxation. Today is a beach day and scuba session at Princess Margaret Beach for those charters. Be on the lookout for the island’s elusive sea horses. Before dinner onboard, your captain and hostess will prepare a floating bar with exotic cocktails. This is paradise!

Sailing day five:

Set sail toward Mustique, a private island accessible only by boat. After lunch, explore the island and its many stately mansions and beaches, or snorkel the reef around the boat. Have dinner at the popular Basils Bar, where lime daiquiris and watching for the green flash at sunset is tradition.

Sailing day six:

Just a few hours sail away are the Tobago Cays. Watch for pods of dolphins playing along the boat as you sail along silently. Shallow live coral reefs invite snorkelers and scuba divers alike as you build up an appetite for your final gourmet meal aboard the boat. Wind down from your incredible week by relaxing on the boat’s twin trampolines up front as the sea breezes lull you to sleep.

Sailing day seven:

After breakfast, your sailing adventure comes to a close on Grenada. If you’re up for it, explore St. George’s, the island capital of Grenada, where you’ll find a great waterfall hike to St. Margaret’s Falls, or culture and history at Grenada National Museum. Before you depart, begin planning for your next island adventure with Festiva Sailing Vacations!
