Just Brew It

Take more than 100 homebrewed beers, put them in competition, and wrap it all up with a festival to benefit local economics, and you get the eighth annual Just Brew It festival, of which RTX was a proud sponsor. The June beer fest is organized by Just Economics, an Asheville membership non-profit that advocates for a just and sustainable local economy, and serves to promote Living Certifiedawareness of sustainable local economic practices, including the organization’s Living Wage Certification Program. RTX has maintained its Living Wage Certification through Just Economics since 2013.

Vicki Meath, executive director of Just Economics said Just Brew it 2017 was a success for beer lovers and for those interested in economic justice.

“Just Brew It helps us in our individual membership drive,” said Meath. “Just Economics works with our individual members and our participants to create programs and strategy that impact positive systems change.  We focus our advocacy work on three primary issues; living wages, better transit and affordable housing.”

The Living Wage Certification Program is the largest in the nation, according to Meath, and has served as a model helping to launch programs in both Durham and Orange County, North Carolina, as well as in Durango, Colorado, and Phoenix, Arizona.

“We’re honored to receive this recognition, and our gratitude toward employees is a solid base of our operations here. This certification shows we’re not only committed to our workers, but also to the local economy,” said Justin Hunter, vice president of operations at RTX. “We’ve found that providing for our work force not only benefits them, it benefits us in a happy, reliable, and well-informed staff that is glad to come to work each day.”
