“The mind, once expanded to the dimensions of larger ideas, never returns to its original size.”– Oliver Wendell Holmes |
Listed #5 out of more than 240 restaurants by Tripadvisor® in Williamsburg and mentioned by locals when asked where to eat, Food For Thought Restaurant serves up Classic American dishes in an eclectic atmosphere designed to stimulate visitors’ taste buds as well as their minds.
A tribute to great leaders, innovators, scientists, business people and humanitarians, the inside walls of the restaurant are covered with famous quotes, pictures and books from some of the greatest minds the world has ever known. The thought provoking atmosphere continues on the table, where conversation-starting cards invite patrons to engage in discussion.
Food For Thought’s menu is just as diverse and creative as the decorative walls. Reading like a book, each section is listed as a chapter with playful names like “Fowl Play,” “You Have to Sea it to Believe it” and “The Garden of Eden.”
Just as whimsical as the chapters are the names of the dishes such as It’s Twins, “The One That Didn’t Get Away” and the popular appetizer “I Don’t Eat Raw Fish.” Named for its magical powers to convince, the dish consist of an Ahi grade tuna steak that is seared and seared rare with wasabi and ginger.
Dinner favorites include classic American dishes like Fork Tender Pot Roast, Fall Off the Bone Ribs and the ever-so tender Grandma’s Meatloaf. Served with either a tomato sauce or brown gravy, the meatloaf melts in your mouth and is flanked by equally delicious side dishes such as collard greens, mashed potatoes or cheese grits.
As no good book is complete without a happy ending, neither is any good meal. A Happy Ending, the final chapter of the menu, consists of melt-in-your-mouth sweet sensations such as bread pudding, chocolate torte and the creative Hot Apple Nachos with Vanilla Ice Cream.
