Located just south of Dunedin, William Dean Chocolates in Belleair Bluffs is the perfect destination to satisfy your sweet tooth. Founder and Chief Chocolate Officer William Dean Brown left the corporate world in 2007 to pursue his passion for making artisan chocolates. His dedication to using fresh ingredients to make chocolates in small, handmade batches using no preservatives as well as meticulous attention to visual appeal have helped establish his reputation in the world of confections.

MacadamiaBrown’s artistic passion began in elementary school, where he discovered a penchant for sketching on any paper materials he could get his hands on. It would be years later – after being trained as an educator, co-founding a software company and moving on to a corporate company where he earned a place in upper management – that he learned to channel his creative talents through making chocolates. His inspiration led him to reading books, taking classes and studying with fellow chocolatiers. It wasn’t long before he was able to learn directly from world-renowned confectioners. Hand-painting and airbrushing were two skills that he focused on; these talents shine so brightly in the creations featured daily in his chocolate shop that Hollywood took notice.

The wildly imaginative and visually stunning works of confectionery art earned him a feature in the first of “The Hunger Games” movies. The citizens of privileged districts in the movies have similarly inventive appearances, wearing giant neon wigs or unusual costumes. Brown’s chocolates – as distinctive as the colorful characters of the popular teen novel trilogy – will also be featured in the second movie “The Hunger Games: Catching Fire.”

Pina ColadaWhether you’re a moviegoer or not, the wide variety of flavors available cater to a plethora of tastes. The recognizable Lemongrass & Coconut, with white chocolate ganache infused with fresh lemongrass and coconut milk, is one of the most popular flavors. Its delicate ridged shell is green and yellow, with brown grasslike strokes. Each sweetmeat has its own individual filling and shell, ranging from fruit purees to chocolate ganache or caramel, and from the iconic fleur-de-lis of the Bananas Foster to the geometric Macadamia Nut or butterfly-shaped Lavender.

If your travels don’t take you to the Tampa Bay area, but your palate is begging to sample a wonderland of flavors, chocolate assortments are available to purchase online at www.williamdeanchocolates.com.
