Carlsbad Nightlife & Social Scene | RTX Traveler Magazine

After dark in the Village by the Sea

Carlsbad caters much more to the family-friendly scene than to the spring break partiers, but there are still plenty of options for entertainment and fun after the sun sets over the Pacific and the little ones are tucked away in bed. Theater performances, film screenings, live music and neighborhood pubs are the heartbeat of Carlsbad’s social scene, and here are some highlights for your consideration.

Cocktails

Coyote Bar & Grill Dini’s by the Sea New Village Arts Theater
This hot spot in the Village Faire shopping complex is just a block from the beach and is always busy after dark. With live music five nights a week and fire pits on the busy patio bar, this is the place to grab a drink and your sweetie to dance and laugh the night away. If you visit on a Monday or Tuesday, warm up your vocal chords first for karaoke on both nights. With an extensive tequila selection and a Mexican-inspired menu, this is the place to be for a lively bar scene in Carlsbad. For tasty cocktails with ocean views, Dini’s by the Sea is the place to be in Carlsbad. For more than 20 years, the Dinis brothers have set the standard for hospitality at their bars and restaurants in the area. Dini’s by the Sea is no exception with an intimate indoor space for friendly drinking and dining, and a lively outdoor patio for taking in the best views of the sunset around while surrounded by  new and old friends. In its 13th season between July 2013 and June 2014, this acclaimed theater is housed in an historic lumberyard building from 1922 and seats 99 people for an intimate experience. With around six performances per season and approximately a month between each show, there are regular events held at the theater between shows. This fall, check out “Wait Until Dark,” a tense thriller from the 1960s perfect for Halloween season in October, followed by “Forever Plaid: Plaid Tidings,” a holiday musical showing from the end of November until the end of December. Show times and days vary.
