Buy It Local. Cook At Home

Orange Beach Wednesday (12)

Gather the family around and utilize your timeshare kitchen for a true Gulf Coast seafood feast! Lartigue’s Seafood Market has been family owned and operated since 1979 and is located at the west end of the strip, across from Palm Beach Resort. They have all the good stuff sold fresh or steamed: royal red shrimp, mussels, oysters, scallops, lobster tails, crab, side dishes and even cold beer.

Orange Beach Wednesday (11)Royal Reds are found about 100 miles south of Orange Beach, in deep water. They’re identified by their large size, rich red color, and their naturally salty and flavorful taste that has been compared to lobster and bay scallops, according to the Alabama Seafood Marketing Commission. The shrimp don’t travel well, so these delicious crustaceans are generally only found near the Alabama Gulf Coast. Start with two pounds of them and steam them up for a delicious family dinner!

In a large pot, bring a quart of water to a rolling boil. Place the shrimp in a steamer basket or colander over the boiling water. Season the shrimp liberally with Lartigue’s Gulf Coast All Purpose Seasoning, and cover the pot.

Cook for several minutes until you notice the shrimp turn bright red, and firm to the touch. Be careful not to overcook. Remove from heat and serve with drawn butter and your favorite Lartigue’s side dish.
