Barking Frog Grille in Sedona | RTX Traveler Magazine

An American restaurant with a Southwest bark

The Barking Frog Grille in in west Sedona offers a variety of dining experiences in an impressive setting. The hacienda style building with patios, lush landscaping and water features set the tone upon arrival. Once you’ve entered through the stylish wooden doors, the different dining options unfold before you, including three different dining rooms, an eat-in bar and two outdoor patios. If you have a large group or special event, private dining is available for anywhere from 10 to 90 people.

If you want to enjoy Sedona’s ideal weather for lunch or dinner, the outdoor patio offers a delightful experience. There’s even a fire pit ease the chill of the desert nights. For a casual lunch or family-friendly dinner, the Gardenside Room is a perfect fit. The bar area is great for Happy Hour or a laid-back dinner, and for a more intimate evening the cozy and comfortable Fireside Room sets the mood with high ceilings, dim lighting and of course, a large fireplace.

If you’re visiting from any place where cacti are not native, the chili-dusted cactus fries with green onion prickly pear sauce is an excellent choice for an appetizer. The taste and texture lies somewhere between fried zucchini and fried pickles – only better. If you’re avoiding fried food or not ready to indulge in cactus, the Southwest lettuce wraps are a deliciously light alternative, with roast chicken, mango, jicama and fire-roasted corn and tomato salsa.

For the main course, choose from Mexican Favorites like chili relleno, burritos, enchiladas or a variety of tacos. The fry bread chicken tacos will give you a taste of the traditional Native American flatbread found throughout Arizona, and the pork carnitas with green chili-tomatillo sauce is an excellent demonstration of the chef’s skill of cooking meat to perfection. A second section of the entrée list features signature dishes ranging from traditional American fare like short ribs and pot roast made with beef from a local farm, to fried whole tilapia served with a dramatic presentation that will wow even the most discerning diner.

Beverage offerings include a variety of specialty margaritas, wines from Arizona and beyond, crafty cocktails and beer. Of course, there are plenty of alcohol-free options, as well as a special food menu for children. The lunch menu features twists on some of the favorite dinner dishes, as well as some lighter fare and sandwiches, and if you indulge in Happy Hour Mon. – Fri. from 3:30 p.m. – 6:30 p.m., you can enjoy specially priced food and drinks. Finish your meal on a sweet note with churros, chocolate dulce cake or vanilla bean flan.
